Comparative steam bending characteristics of some planted forest wood species in Malaysia

نویسندگان

چکیده

The bending performance of wood is important for its application in furniture, and it one the criteria used to assess suitability a particular species furniture. In this context, steam-bending surface roughness characteristics four forest plantation were evaluated. One batch specimens subjected both experiments using stylus toluene spread methods, while another steaming, clamped, bent circular shape mold. instantaneous spring-back was measured after 10 days, over time from days 15 65. showed that Hevea brasiliensis had lowest roughness, followed by Eucalyptus pellita, Acacia mangium, finally Revotropix paulownia. terms performance, found only H. achieved threshold 95% satisfactory level based on visual ranking. Furthermore, also recorded spring-back, over-time, register best performance. On other hand, R. paulownia worst primarily due low density.

Object-Based Classification of UltraCamD Imagery for Identification of Tree Species in the Mixed Planted Forest

This study is a contribution to assess the high resolution digital aerial imagery for semi-automatic analysis of tree species identification. To maximize the benefit of such data, the object-based classification was conducted in a mixed forest plantation. Two subsets of an UltraCam D image were geometrically corrected using aero-triangulation method. Some appropriate transformations were perfor...

Comparative Study of Wood Flour Photodegradation of Two Wood Species Submitted to Artificial Weathering

In this work Eucalyptus grandis and Dipteryx odorata were submitted to photodegradation by ultraviolet radiation. The effect of ultraviolet radiation irradiation on the color change and chemical composition of each wood flour were evaluated. The samples were submitted to a total of 500h of artificial weathering using condensation stages and ultraviolet radiation B irradiation cycles. The change...

Free Radical Scavenging Activity of Some Plants Available in Malaysia

The present study was carried out to determine the free radical scavenging properties of some plants, found in Malaysia. The air-dried leaves of each plant (20 g) were soaked in distilled water (1:20; w/v) for 72 h at room temperature. Collected supernatants were tested for free radical scavenging activity against the DPPH and superoxide anion radical scavenging assays. All extracts were found ...
